Digital is fun!

I am having fun with my computer and photo-editing software. Pictures of paper collages I made last year get mixed up, filtered, layered and worked into this totally new digital collage.

Simple, squares

Through the years we have been camping many times and always I need to have some handwork with me to do while sitting outside, at the end of the day.

I have been doing patchwork while traveling in Nevada, in France and Spain. Thought I am not making traditional quilts anymore and use my studiotime for making art, fiber or paper, I decided once again to return to patchwork and here's why: in a year we will change from the Caribbean to the Mediterranean area and I want to make our new house cozy. And for me that is still: with quilts...

This one will be sewn into a simple throw, handstitched into strips during our trip, secured and finished by machine upon returning home, the blocks and colors placed at random, just

simple squares!

Blogging pauze

We are about to embark on our annual holiday with our camper. From the last two years I know that blogging can be difficult at the places we love to visit like National Forests and Parks, with the fact that I have to share the laptop with my dh during our trip, not having ample possibilities to write about the places we visit and adventures we meet. So this time I decided to stop my blogging for a while. Maybe there will be an occasional blogpost in the months to come, maybe not, at this moment I really don't know.

What I hate to say is that I cannot openly write about the where and when of our holiday, due to security reasons. The situation with crime on our island is not something to think light about, so we took our measures and the house is being taken care off properly.

I hope that the huge heatwave in the USA is on its way back when we arrive, despite the fact that we have an airco in our vehicle, I long for fresh air and being outside!

When I return I will make it up with pictures and experiences of our trip, promised...

Time, a luxury

The Sea #1

Vacation time everywhere; less cars on the roads of our island,

less friends to spend time with, less interesting programs on tv, giving time to enjoy books, art, company of dear ones, playing with my favorite software on the computer...

I made this digital collage by layering pictures of our recent visit to the isle of St. Eustatius.
It is the first one in a new series of digital collages, you can see some of the original photos in this post.

Summer in Holland

The last few weeks we paid a surprise visit to our children in Holland!

Despite our busy agenda, there was time left to enjoy other delicious things like...

the market with plenty of berries and cherries

a short visit to Amsterdam, where even in this urban jungle beautiful
garden holyhocks were to be admired

and of course my favorite Dutch heritage: old mills, this one is in the city of Hoogeveen, in the Northern province of Drenthe

perfect roses in the community borders of Zevenaar

and the mill in this city during the evening twilight.

Of course in July it is daylight untill late in the evening,

something one almost forgets when living in the tropics

Now we're back on our little island. Paradise is everywhere, and at the same time nowhere...

Another Caribbean island (2)

On the first day of my visit to Statia I had time to visit the old historic part of Oranjestad, the island's capital (and only 'city'). Houses like this one are still common here;


There is a beautiful old fortress that dates back centuries, this is the view it offers on the Caribbean Sea. The sea is always present on this island, no matter where you are and where you look...


I know lots of people just think this is an ugly wall, but imho it was so beautiful, I hope it never gets a new layer of paint! Click the image please to see details

I noticed the sunset when it was at its most dramatic, just after the sun had gone under

In the museum I met a wellknown Dutch lady, ou former Queen Juliana, when she was

very young. No matter what history brought us, no matter what distance lies between the two countries, I think it so nice that the people of this tiny Caribbean island still adore our royal family

At the end of Statia you can have a close view on the island of St. Christopher, bka St. Kitts, with a mountain top of Nevis behind it

The countryside is totally undeveloped, these donkeys just walked around, I doubt whether they have an owner

Ah, the colour scheme says it all, we are in the Caribbean here!!
