In between

... in between the trips and outings we have with our children, I found time to make another fabric collage/art quilt. I am not sure in what category these little works fit, for they are made of fabric, have been quilted, but I also used paper and paint. Not that it is of any concern to me... The lime coloured fabric was dyed and stamped by me, using my own designed stamps, you might recognize some familiar shapes! The blue fabric at the bottom and the big swatches at the top are remnants of famous (at least in Holland) 'Paapjes' fabric. When living in Holland we used to go to the screenprinting facility where these fabrics were made and on certain days we could buy remnants, which of course felt like a party for addicts like me. I don't think they are in business anymore, for the last thing I heard about the lady that designed the screens was that she is into stained glass art, but I might have that wrong. I hope you also have a good time as we are heading towards the end of this year!

Christmas in our house

The branch that is hanging on the old orchard ladder below, is from one of our coconut trees.

Rather than buying a real christmas tree that has been transported to our island in an airconditioned container, I like to use what is on hand... going green

I had some gold spray paint lying around and used it to beautify the branches, bring them in
a sparkling Christmas atmosphere...

after some seven years it still feels a bit uncomfortable to celebrate Christmas here. Winter, with all its unconvenience, is imprinted in my genes, I think. Therefore, just a little decoration


here and there

Christmas in a tropical climate: different, yet very festive; slowly I am getting in the mood. Looking forward for the arrival of our eldest son and our daughter.

So happy with the light, the abundance of light. From the sun, from within...

Inspiration galore

and the only thing I come up with is just a little bit of playing

with my digital images!

It probably is the weather, that is cooler at this time of the year. I even have to wear a long sleeve t-shirt or cardigan at night, I even have the luxury of 'shivering', and for me that is a real luxury. Of course one cannot compare it with feeling really cold, the blue-ish fingers kind of cold...

We are very busy with our preparations for moving back to Europe; yardsales, house for sale, open house yesterday and of course the work involved to present everything at it's best.

But the other good thing is: I feel so very inspired!!! So I have made a planning of things I want to have accomplished before joining my last Art in the Park (February 2012). It is a mixture of things fabric and things paper, more about that later. For now:

The Marigot Market

Hi!

It is Thursday, so on my Facebook site I posted storyboard # 16. Last week I explained my decision to post the original pictures here on Mostly Turquoise, you can read it here.

This week's storyboard was made of the first two of the pictures below. On the French site of the island there is the 'capital' Marigot, that has a lovely marketplace near the waterside. This true Caribbean place is boasting with activity on Saturday morning, with fresh fish from our waters and fruits, vegetables and spices from here and/or the neighbouring islands.

Unfortunately the place is becoming somewhat dilapidated and I really cannot
imagine why this fence is broken at this particular place. But it still inspires...

and to complete your impression of this lovely spot: the view!
