Spain. Now

Long time, no blogging, my friends....

After we moved in the apartment in the underbuild of our home, we started renovating. Here is a little update...

On mother's day our eldest son came driving on his motorbike, all the way from Holland. He  has been driving through Germany, Luxembourg, France, the Pyrenees and arrived after five days. With his energetic help the old kitchen and bathroom have been removed, all tiles both from the walls and the floor have been broken out and carried away, a hell of a job. Despite the work, we had a very good time together.

Now the upper part of the house is stripped and empty, ready to be restored. At the moment the electricity cables are being checked, replaced and extended where necessary. In the meantime we have asked for offers regarding the solar heating system and study the possibilities, differences, look for materials like tiles and how do we want our bathroom, our new kitchen?

The majority of this work is being done by my sweet husband, and I take care of the drinks, the calls, run errands whenever something is missing and the like. No time, or energy for blogging. It seems I have nothing to tell you, at the same time a lot, but not in the usual way. I'm sure you understand my temporary absence in this place.

But: every day the weather is getting more lovely here in Spain, and we wake up in the morning with sunny weather. In the afternoon, when it is siesta time here, I often read and recharge in our secluded garden behind the house. This might become my most favorite spot here, at least for as long my studio is not ready to move in! The place where we live now is lovely, the coast gorgeous and there are many, many very friendly Spanish people and folks from other European countries around.
All in al we feel already at home and so this has been a good step, moving from the Caribbean to
Spain!

I would love to show some pictures from my coastal walk yesterday. However, at this moment Blogger/Internet Explorer does not let me upload anything. Hence the above picture is one of my old collages that was in Picasa.

Thanks for visiting, as always!

A new house, moving...

and so, of course, way too busy to blog!

We bought a lovely villa in the town of Moraira, Spain. The house is within walking distance of the beach!
Like everywhere, there are seagulls in the neighborhood, so on this Sunday I managed to get this photomontage ready: background from one of my favorite Starbucks pictures, layered with a seagull in the marshes of Georgia, summer 2012...

This is about the only creative result by me these days; my main activity is moving our stuff over from the finca in the mountains to this seaside villa. Then a pretty substancial renovation, so we are busy!
Yet, until now I won't give up blogging, I hope you will stay with me for the time being...
Thanks for visiting, as always,

Pyrenees

After we crossed the Spanish-Frenchborder, we saw the snow covered mountains of the Pyrenees...we are heading north!

My apologies for my long absence on this blog! Moving to another country and starting all over is a huge job, I knew and expected that. But this is the first time we changed our place of living to an entirely new country for both my husband and me. We were in Spain a long time ago during vacationtime, but as everywhere, living is quite something else.

So, what did I do when being too busy to blog?

. getting to know the villages and little towns, along the coast and more inland
. further refining our search which neighborhoods we liked to eventually buy a  house
. looking for houses (there are thousands for sale here!) on the internet
. once we knew the address first have a look ourselves: would our camper fit on the property? did the property provide for our hard demands? (we also had less demanding wishes...)

The result of this timeconsuming househunting is that we found a lovely villa within walking distance of one of the lovely beaches of Moraira!

You will understand there was no time for art, though I did make some collages in between.
Next we will visit the Netherlands and after we come back the house will be ours.
Then we have to carry out a pretty big renovation, since it is a fixer upper, though there will be help of a contractor.
I expect to be able to post every now and then, but not too often, in the near future. Hopefully you bear with me and will keep visiting my blog.

Thanks for your patience and for visiting today!

Recently...

... I showed a digitally altered fragment of one of my newest collages. Today I am so happy to be able to show the final result. My newest work is called 'Moment d'ete'!
It consists of nine small collages, that all have a strong summery feel for me: whether by the light, the subject and/or the colors. The tecnique to put them together by way of wiring I rediscovered in an old issue of Cloth, Paper, Scissors. I am very surprised by the way it turned out and will probably use this method more often in future work.
Btw: comments are highly appreciated...!

Thanks for visiting, wishing you a great weekend,

Regina
