was wonderful! After trimming trees again on Saturday, we enjoyed a very relaxed Sunday on the beach. The weather was of the real Caribbean kind after a long time, that means lots of sun and a clear blue sky.
Yesterday the island Hygiene Department apparently fogged our neighborhood, because for the first time we could enjoy our breakfast on the veranda again without being constantly disturbed by mosquito's. It was about time, for many people suffer(ed) from Dengue fever. This is a lousy tropical disease that at first feels like the flu but comes with a lot more pain, high fever and a severe general feeling of misery.
As far as art is concerned, I am totally devoted to art journal backgrounds
at the moment. I don't bother about working with fabric, because the weather is
too hot and humid. Could it be true that working with textiles is more rewarding/pleasant in colder climates?
On the first picture you can see the city of Philipsburg, the 'capital' of the Dutch side of the island of St. Maarten. The second photo shows our Buttercup plant, that finally blooms after about having been in this pot for two years. Patience is rewarding (every now and then)!
Het was een mooi weekend! Nadat we op zaterdag weer bomen hebben gesnoeid, werd de zondag op relaxte manier doorgebracht op het strand. Voor het eerst sinds lange tijd was het echt Caraibisch weer: veel zon en een helderblauwe hemel.
De afdeling Hygiene van de overheid heeft gisteren blijkbaar gespoten in onze buurt, want voor het eerst konden we weer eens op de veranda van ons ontbijt genieten zonder constant door muggen geplaagd te worden. Het was ook wel tijd, want er zijn veel mensen ziek (geweest) van de Dengue. Dit is een nare tropische ziekte die overgebracht wordt door muggen; de verschijnselen lijken op griep, maar er is sprake van veel meer pijn, vooral in botten en spieren, hoge koorts en algehele malaise.
Wat kunst betreft ben ik op het ogenblik vooral bezig met art journals. Textiel trekt me nu niet, want het weer is te heet en vochtig. Zou het dan toch zo zijn dat je liever met textiel werkt als je in een koeler klimaat woont?
Op de eerste foto zie je Philipsburg, de 'hoofdstad' van het Nederlandse deel van St. Maarten.
Foto 2 laat onze Buttercup-plant zien, die na twee jaar in deze pot gestaan te hebben, eindelijk bloeit.
